FIRST AMENDMENT/FREEDOM OF THE PRESS NEWSPAPER GUIDE QUESTIONS

Please respond in roughly one-half page to ONE of the following predetermined questions assigned to you in class earlier today.

GROUP A GUIDE QUESTION:

Sum up the major points of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Who wrote it? What does it mean? Does everyone enjoy these rights?

GROUP B GUIDE QUESTION:

How the First Amendment is prevalent in your home, school, and world? What can students do to practice ‘freedom of the press’ in a school setting?

GROUP C GUIDE QUESTION:

The motto of The Landry News is “Truth and Freedom.” Report how Cara fulfills her motto in the first five chapters of the novel.

GROUP D GUIDE QUESTION:

Write an editorial in support or in opposition to Cara’s article about Mr. Larson’s lazy teaching techniques. Was Cara justified in challenging her teacher’s teaching abilities? Would you do the same if you were in Cara’s shoes?
